At the end of last year, Roland de Wolfe walked away as our UK Player of the Year 2007 after a clear points victory over the rest of the field. However, we decided that points could not judge our four other categories alone, so we asked you to cast your vote. Thanks to everyone who took part – four people will be picked at random to receive some great prizes.

We thought this was going to be a closely fought category after players like Mazhar Nawab and Roberto Romanello had such great runs in the GUKPT. But, you just couldn’t argue with the fact that John Tabatabai came achingly close to winning the inaugural WSOPE.

Ram Vaswani may have won a WSOP bracelet, Tabatabai shown bravura at the WSOPE and Stuart Fox repeated his WSOP heroics, but most of you were much more impressed with Jon Kalmar’s ability to outlast over 6,000 runners to finish at the final table of the WSOP.

Jeff Kimber and Julian Thew may have both won their respective ‘big’ events (World Heads-up Championship and EPT Baden) but you were understandably swayed by the WSOP performances of Kalmar and Tabatabai. It went right down to the wire, but Kalmar just pipped it at the post with is ‘zero to hero’ story.

This category was full of strong contenders: Romanello and Nawab had impressed all year and the brilliant Ian Cox had shown remarkable consistency. But it would have been tough for Thew not to walk away with the award after winning the GUKPT Plymouth and coming secojnd in a side event when the tour went to London.
