Ivey wins WPT

Tournament maestro Phil Ivey finally adds a World Poker Tour title to his long list of acheivements

Phil Ivey has won the LA Poker Classic held at the Commerce Casino, finally breaking his World Poker Tour duck.

Ivey previously held the record for most WPT final tables with seven, but this is his first tournament win in the high profile event.

The event attracted 655 players, contributing to a total prizepool of ,374,400. For first place Ivey, regarded by many as the finest tournament poker player in the world, scooped ,596,100.

Phil Hellmuth also made the final table, but finished in sixth place, with another big name Nam Le finishing in fourth.

But it was left to Phil Ivey to take all of the plaudits afforded him after another stunning victory.

The win takes him to ,605,908 in career earnings, and up to sixth on the all-time money list.

The end came with the blinds at 80,000-160,000, with a running ante of 20,000, when Ivey’s full house was too strong for Quinn Do’s two pair.

After the win Ivey told worldpokertour.com: “I just decided to bear down and give myself the maximum chance of winning.”

“I guess now I have to try and catch Gus (Hansen), he’s won three events, and Daniel (Negreanu) has won two, so I’ve got to try and get some more wins.”

Final results:
1. Phil Ivey ,596,100
2. Quinn Do 9,400
3. Charles Moore 5,630
4. Nam Le 1,770
5. Scott Montgomery 6,860
6. Phil Hellmuth 9,820
