Thursday Racing

Stuart Eaton correctly predicted that Shabiba would would win at Newmarket and Candle as would Dustoori at Goodwood on Thursday 4 October 2007

Newmarket

2.00 A decent field on show as you might expect from a Newmarket maiden and with so many powerful stables represented there may be some potentially decent sorts on display. With a few debutants in the field it is wise to pay attention to any market moves, that said it is probably safe to focus our efforts on the first three in the betting.

Elizabeth Swann has certainly been consistent in both her previous starts, placing in each, after finding a potentially decent sort on debut, she improved to go an awful lot closer last time out. She looks capable of winning a small race but may well find one or two too good today.

Spinning Lucy certainly has plenty of potential – she was unlucky on debut and was then beaten when a very short price next time out. She was not disgraced in a very tough race in Ireland last time out and it will be interesting to see how she has improved.

My tip goes to Shabiba who is extremely well regarded at home and her Dam won the Nell Gwyn. She was impressive on debut and looked like she would win, but ultimately was too green to see the race through. She already looks like a ready made winner and she is likely to be contesting races at a higher grade sooner rather than later.

Goodwood

4.05 Plenty of good recent form on offer and I would expect big runs from Dessert D’Argent, Lisathedaddy and Candle who have all run well while turning in decent figures.

I like the look of the lightly raced and consistent Pivotal Answer who still potentially has bags of improvement and looks to be thrown in at the weights. The only possible downside is that she will not run quite as well on turf as most of her better races have been on the AW.

4.40 This looks to be a fantastic opportunity for the Godolphin trained Dustoori, who is a half-brother to several winners including a Dubai World Cup winner. He made the perfect start to his racing career winning by 1 ½ lengths and followed that up with a 2nd next time out – when 5 lengths clear of the rest of the field. A good run is expected.
